MD/DC Chapter News
June 2003

The
Maryland/District of Columbia Chapter of ERAPPA held the chapters Spring 2003
meeting on March 28, 2003, at the University of Maryland Baltimore County campus
in suburban Baltimore, Maryland. The
educational topics for this meeting were:
1.
Chilled
Water Systems and Thermal Storage.
2.
Administrivia
– Supervisors Training
3.
Electronic
Access and Key Control
We
met in the new Student Center on the campus and had an opportunity to tour the
facility after the educational sessions. It
is quite a unique building and was very worthwhile touring to see the green
initiatives that were incorporated into the design.
We would like to thank our hosts at the University of Maryland Baltimore
County for their hospitality.
The
next event for the MD/DC Chapter is our annual educational retreat.

The Third Annual Retreat and Educational Program will
be held June 26th and 27th 2003, at the Rocky Gap Lodge
and Conference Center. This retreat
will follow the same two-day format as last year with participants arriving on
the morning of the 26th or the evening of the 25th for
those who may wish to travel the night before the event begins.
This years planned topic is “Aligning Strategies
with Customer Expectations”. The
keynote speaker this year is Robin Lawton, the outstanding speaker who presented
the topic “Customer Centered Cultures” at last year’s retreat.
In addition to the planned educational sessions,
there will be plenty of networking time during the wonderful meals that are
planned or during the bonfire that will be held on the first night of the
retreat. If that isn’t enough,
additional time can be spent with colleagues on the championship golf course or
some attendees elect to extend their stay over the weekend and bring family or
friends to the resort. Once again
this year’s retreat promises to be a very popular event.
As mentioned in the February Newsletter, the Chapter held a pilot program titled The Supervisors Toolkit: Nuts and Bolts of Facilities Supervision. Howard University graciously offered to serve as the host this pilot program, which was held March 31, 2003, to April 4, 2003. The supervisors who attended this session from a variety of facilities in the Washington, DC/Baltimore, Maryland area found the information to be very valuable and couldn’t wait to get back to their respective facilities to implement what they had learned.
