MD/DC Chapter News            September 21, 2001 

The Maryland/District of Columbia Chapter of ERAPPA held it’s Fall 2001 meeting on September 21, 2001, at the John’s Hopkins Applied Physics Lab in Columbia, Maryland.  The MD/DC Chapter held this meeting as a joint effort with the Maryland Chapter if the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA). 

Elections for Chapter Board Members were held with the following officers being selected to serve during 2001-2002: 

President – Dennis Bohlayer – Towson University
President Elect – Robert Burhenn – Catholic University
Past President – Kevin Petersen – Catholic University
Treasurer – Sherri Vucci – Smithsonian Institution
Secretary – John Jensen – Towson University
Third Term Director – Gary Viola – University of Maryland, Baltimore
Third Term Director – Kevin Mann – Salisbury State University
Second Term Director – Ayodele McClenney – George Washington University
Second Term Director – Dan Branigan – Saint Mary’s College of Maryland
First Term Director – Sarah High – American University
First Term Director – Chander Bhan – Howard University
Education Chair and ERAPPA Representative – Willy Sutter – American University 

Three concurrent educational sessions were conducted with topics that included: 

• Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design conducted by Mr. Jesse DiMura, a certified CPTED specialist and a member of the Towson University Police Department.
• Proactive Indoor Air Quality as a Facilities Management Tool conducted by Mr. Gray Robertson, President and Co-founder of Healthy Buildings International.
• Campus Fire Protection conducted by Michael Thompson, Supervisory Fire Protection Engineer with Gage-Babcock and Associates.

Three scholarships to the APPA Institute were awarded at the meeting.   These scholarships went to: 

• Dave Fortman from Loyola University
• John Barber from University of Maryland at Baltimore
• Crystan Coleman from American University

Congratulations to each of these recipients!! 

In addition, a new logo for the MD/DC Chapter was unveiled that coincides with the activation of the chapters website.  The logo is located below and the website can be found at http://www.towson.edu/facilities/appa/
